I'm not sure what rpm it's supposed to be set at, but it is supposed to idle high. If you turned down your idle screw because you thought it was to high it will stall just like you explained. The bad thing about it is it will destroy your starter.

Does it happen only when you have the clutch pulled in?

It could be that your clutch is going out. Have you ever replaced the OEM clutch? It could be heating up to the point that it is not letting it fully disengage, and then it is still putting a load on the engine even with the clutch pulled in.

Something to think about I guess.

I would start by setting to the proper RPM just so then you know where to start. There should be a little bit of play in your lever, not totally tight.

You need a digital meter with a amp clamp. Mac tools has a good one. There is a rpm setting on the meter and you clamp lead on to your spark plug cable in the direction of flow. The arrow points toward the plug. Fire up your bike and the meter will read your rpm,s. To buy a meter for this purpose would be useless but any automotive shop or dealer should have one.
