Hey guys...this is my first time posting to the yamaha forum. But I have a ? for you. I used to own a '93 Warrior. It was too big for me to throw around so I sold it. My husband had a 250X and it was much easier for me to ride, so I bought a 300EX (wanted the electric start). Anyways, we both have 300EX's now but my husband is kicking himself in the rear for selling the Warrior. He's over 6' tall and weighs in around 235...feels that the bigger machine would suit him better. So...onto my question. He's looking at a 1987 Warrior. It needs some work...but it's stuff that he can do and the price is right. Were there any problems with the Warriors that year that we should know about? Thanks!

I believe they moved the engine back two inches in 89 giving it better balance but there isnt any problems with the 87s that I know of there almost exactly the same as the 2000's.

They are good quads but they can be a little heavy in the front if he likes to jump he needs a 400ex because they are way lighter thats my 2 cents worth

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't the warrior have gear changing problems? The problems that I have heard are popping out of gear and very notchy shifting.

not neccesarily. I've road my uncle 88 warrior a lot (in total, probably around 40 hours!), and not once has it popped out of gear.

They didn't move the engine back 2 inches in 89 they only made the swingarm 2 inches shorter and moved the headlights up

I have an 87 warrior and I love it. but the only problem I have had with is the rear shock blowing out That is the only problem I have had with it .....i guess it is time for some works shocks.

Mudrider,
You stock rear shock, if the body is in good condition, can be rebuilt & upgraded to be better than a Works shock. Check CT Racing's web site for the options available to you. I believe an upgrade rebuild is $240.

more than the swinging arm was changed. the whole front end was change the 90 on have better geomitry and brakes. other than that they are not bad but the 90 on warriors do handle better.
