Default Changing the oil on my Yamaha Grizz 660

... I have already changed the oil on my grizz, but how the heck do you get the oil filter off??? Does anyone know where I can get a filter wrench of some sort for this task, or is there an easier way to do it? Anyways... that for all the help.

yes there is a special tool for it that attaches to a ratchet and extension but i don't have that. i just hammered a screwdriver into the oil filter and used it for leverage to loosen the filter. works as good as anything but it's a bit messy.

I just use some rigged up crap to do it and it works fine. Got the idea from the wrenches they use for filters on tractor trailers.

Get a stick of some kind, like a 1"x1" piece of wood thats maybe 2ft. long. Get a nylon strap about 8" long (like something off a backpack or gym bag works) and make a loop in it. Then staple or nail it or fasten it somehow to the far end of the wood like a little loopy looking flag sticking off it. (sounds pretty stupid the way this is worded) Then just stick that thing in there where the loop of the nylon goes around the filter. All you have to do is twist it up tight and turn the filter off. I couldn't get mine off by hand so I just rigged this thing up with some junk laying around the shop, and I've used it 3 times so far with no problem.

And if you don't have the stuff, that screwdriver trick works too. Never did it on a quad, but I have on a truck once. Messy.

you can get the plastic thingy that goes on the end of it and attaches to a ratchet at Wal Mart, about 2 bux. Get the smallest one they have.

Actually, they carry the filter, just look it up in their book and try the small one out to make sure it fits

I didn't have one for my first change and had to jab a screwdriver in it too

never again
