I think spd has the right idea. For 640 dollars you can stoke the engine to a 430 via Mickey Dunlop ( Dunlap)??? i forget the spelling. Youll probably have to spend another 150 on a bigger oil cooler. Thats what I'm going to do if i EVER get a shop manual for my wolv.... been tappin my foot for a month now.... I love my Kodi but I want to drive my wolv more and boy does it need a build. Engine is louder than the exhaust.

You dont need to do everything I did to make Mojaves and 300EXs to eat dust. You may be closer than you think.

You could always be patient, save longer, keep the Wolv, and buy a cheap sport bike to start with. Then if you fall in love with sport bikes you could sell both and get a Z400 (booo! - j/k - they are nice bikes) but if not you would still have something to play on and something that can go anywhere. But I determined that the 2WD bikes go 99% of anywhere we trail ride, even if they have to go around sometimes... but I'll betcha my Wolv gets little use now that I bought the 'Dale. I'm hoping to get a cheap lil trailer so when I go riding I can put the Wolv in the truck, trailer the 'Dale, and have the Wolv for backup incase the tempermental lil speed demon desides to take a crap on me somewhere. Hell, I could even use the Wolv to tow the lil whipper-snapper back if I had to in a pinch. I don't think I can part with my Wolv - she has always done me right and never let me down. It's up to you. If it were me, I would save a while and then you could never regret not having the 4x4. Good luck!

Default Should I sell Wolverine?

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not sure yet what I'll do. I like my Wolverine just thought I might get something new. At first I wanted a Z 400 but then I rode my buddy's 660 Grizzly.....WOW! I never thought I'd like an auto-quad. That Grizzly changed my mind. Power, speed. ground clearence and good looks. I still like the Z 400 though. My Wolverine has let me down several times. Wheel bearings, brakes and that pesk bogging problem when it gets hot. I took it to several quad shops $$$ but it still acts up on a hot day. Right now it is at a local Yamaha dealer. They are jetting it. They said it is running lean. When they go up one size it runs too rich. They can't figure it out. They said going up one jet size is like 4 in my Wolverine. They've never seen anything like it. It only acts up on hot days though. OH WELL! Thanks again!

Wolverineman, how many miles are on your Wolverine? I had a hell of a time getting mine to run decent a while back, always ran rich, black soot coming out of the tail pipe, small changes in jetting made it far worse, I didn't know what to do. Then a couple of winters ago, I decided to do a rebuild and bore it out a little, when I took the head and cylinder off, and just for kicks, I checked the piston clearance in the jug. The piston rattled around in the bore with WAY too much clearance, don't know how it stayed running like that. After a piston/ring and a .040 over bore, it ran like new, no soot out the pipe, and it was easy to jet it for maximum performance without all the tail chasing I was doing before. My engine had a lot of hard miles on it, don't know how many are on yours, maybe do a quick compression check and see if your cylinder is worn a bit, could be the source of your problems.

PS : if you do sell your Wolverine, let us know where you live, so all us other Wolvy owners can come visit you with a sack of doorknobs,....errrr..... I mean help you out, ya, thats right, help !!!! (just kidding !!)

I'm not sure how many miles are on it. I know I've got alot of seat time on it, though. I still have the stock tires. They are worn down but not bald. My Wolverine has been acting up like that since it I bought it brand new in 1998. It only acts up on hot days. It runs great in the sping, fall or winter. I've taken it a few places to have it looked at. No one could find anything wrong. It wouldn't act up when they had it. I got it back from the dealer last week, after they jetted it. It ran better, but it started sputtering at half throttle after it got hot. I took it back to the dealer. They thought it was the piolet jet. I'm waiting to get it back, now..
