Hello all

I'm a new member to this forum but have been reading for a while. I just got rid of my HOnda Rincon and purchased an 04 Grizzly. I have heard the good and bad about this maching but after riding one it seems to best suit me. And I suppose their is good and bad about all machines.

Any info on this machine would be greatly appreciated.

I agree. My buddy has the Rincon and I just got my 04 Gizzly. Both have many good and bad features. Yam--Locking front Diff...major plus. Honda--car like auto trans..most likely a major plus. Those are just a few. Cant chat much..late for work. Let me know what your comparisons are.

good: fun to ride, fast, smoooooooooooooooth ride, fast, goes anywhere, pulls anything, hauls all my hunting stuff with ease! Looks badass!

bad: drinks gas (all big bores do), belt can slip if it gets wet (common to belt drives, never happened to me!) 03's had weak front shafts, 02/03 had the over heating problems (not all of them)

That is all I can think of. I have NEVER had the boiling gas/vapor lock problem and my drive shafts are still intact

just ride it and enjoy!

Welcome to the forum Bucksavage, and congrats on your new Grizzly. I think you hit the nail on the head with your statement about good and bad in every quad. You just have to find the quad that fits you best.

I did the same thing as you. I first bought a Prairie 650, because the magazines said they were the best in the shoot-outs, but after having it for 5 months I realized it wasn't the best for me. I also had several problems with it in that short time. But I don't think that makes it a bad quad, as you said they all have their good and bad.

I have had my Grizzly 660 since Last October, and I haven't had a single problem with it. I love the Grizzly 660 and it is definitely the quad for me

Congratulations once again and welcome to the forum. Also, if you haven't already, check out the High Lifter forum, there are lots more Grizzly owners over there.

Thanks for the info everyone. I just finished taking a ride on my grizz and what a blast. On more question I have. Since I am new the the belt drive quads is it common to hear a slight ratteling noise coming from the clutches. It is nothing major and I only hear it when I let off the gas. If I had to guess I would say that it is common but not sure.

Hey Kraw
I see you've got a Raptor and a Griz. This is probably a dumb question, but how do they compare. I'm trying to decide betweenthe two, and I've decided on the Griz. I ride a lot of trails here and some fire roads, but I think its worth it to have 4wd especially in the winter.
From what I've heard, the Griz is still pretty quick when it comes to the fire roads, and I've even seen some people wheelying(sp?) them in the magazines.

Just thought I'd ask your opinion since you own both.

Thanks

I have a 04 Kodiak and it has the same ratteling noise as well when you let off the gas. I think it is a common thing. When I took it in to the shop for it's first matinance they did not say anything was wrong. So I just figure it is a normal noise. BTW I love my Kodiak and I wanted the griz but my girlfriend said I had to get the kodiak first to see how I liked that. Oh well Kodiak is a sweet machine. The griz is a sweet machine. Nice choice, ride hard ride safe!!

The Grizz is great! Sometimes, I wish I would have gotten a second Grizz, but I wanted a true sport bike

Usually when we take both bikes out, the wife is on the Grizz, and she doesn't accelerate fast, so I can't tell you how well it may keep up with me on the Rappy.

If you think you will do 99% trail/mud/woods riding, get the Grizz. If you want to do alot of jumping and high speed flat area riding & trail, go with the Rappy. The Grizz will GO anywhere, the Rappy, well, I got stuck leaving the parking area this weekend, going to the woods trail.

It's really hard to say. It all comes down to what kinda riding you want to do. The Grizz is good for hunting purposes too, the Rap isn't

It is really hard to compare the 2

i've got some input on this as well..
if you're doing anything other than tearing around and jumping and racing, you'll want the grizzly. the raptor is only good for those things. the grizzly can be used for hauling more people (my family of four), mud riding, pulling trailers, hunting, dragging crap around in the yard and many, many more things. if i only had one quad i'd want it to be the grizzly, no contest. but man, when you feel like tearing it up, riding wheelies at 40mph and such, there's no replacement for the raptor. also, there is no question that the raptor accelerates WAY faster than the grizzly, which it should.
as for problems with grizzlies, i have 1000 miles on mine and i did break a rear cv joint this weekend while doing some racing and mudding which will cost me 85 bucks to fix(no big deal) and i have had the vapor lock problem a couple times in the past which i cured with heat shielding. if anyone on here has problems with the vapor lock thing just ask me and i'll tell you how to fix it. took me a little experimenting but it fixed mine. anyway, the problems with the grizzly are small and easy to fix compared to some of the other big bores. i wouldn't trade the grizz for any other quad. you'll love it. any probs you ask me, i can help you out. check out highlifter, very good site.
