Big Bear 4 x 4 Top Speed
I think my brothers big bear 400 is a 2001. The dealer told him it would do about 55. What a bunch of BS. He is lucky to get 40-45 mph out of it. A good cruising speed is 25 or so, any higher than that and it sounds like it is reving pretty high.
My friend has a timberwolf and a big bear 350, the timberwolf is a lot faster.
The big bear is a good woods cruiser, on a trail it is to slow in my opinion.

I havent done alot of riding with groups of people but personally when Im out riding even on hardtop I dont care about doing more than about 20 or 25. On the trails I like to go slower than that. I enjoy being on the trail, not getting through it. Makes me wonder which one more people like: Being on the trail or getting through the trail so you can get to the next trail etc. My girlfriend is one of the people who is like "come on, speed up, lets get there already." As soon as I get on the four wheeler I am there. Heck, i mow the grass with mine.

A kodiak I know about. Here is the deal. The vents for the snorkles are just beneath the front and rear plastic. As long as you dont submerge the plastic you are fine. The only weakness of the snorkles from the factory is the connector between snorkle and transmisssion. It is very short ( in the front anyway, I am not sure of the rear) and the snorkle can come out of it sometimes. People use hose clamps or a longer rubber connector, or both to feel safe about this area. The other thing is if you wish to go deeper than over the plastic regularly, then the kodiak is easy to snorkle and there are many examples and posts about it at Highlifter.com. The only other place water could get in is through the belt cover on the side of the trans and I have never read of this happening.
None of what I said is to any way say anything bad about the BB or to promote the Kodiak. But I will say that I would not worry about belt slipping if you check those connectors on the snorkles down on the trans. They quite often are not tightened sufficiently at the factory.
Oh, and if your considering a newer quad, say 2003 or 2004, i think the kodiak 400 doesnt have low range. So I would say that a 450 would be the pick in those year models. No since in not having it when its available.
