2 Stroke means you get fire every time the piston goes up. Piston goes down and draws fuel in, then goes up and compresses the gas on the way up, then the spark plug fires and an explosion pushes the piston down and your exaust vavles open. then it starts over.. with a 4 stroke you get 1-intake(on the way down), 2-compression(up), 3-power(down), 4-exaust(up). A 4 stroke will run smoother but you get more power with a 2 stroke(at certain RPM)

When you mix oil in your gas it's just because you don't have oil injection.. something has to lubricate your engine. Some 2 strokes have oil injection and some don't... I had a TS200R two stroke dirt bike with injection and it worked pretty good but most older 2 strokes with oil injection suck so poeple just unhook it and mix the fuel.. same with the newer snow machines with oil injection... they haven't seemed to master oil injecton yet or somthing so they burn pistons alot..

Look at the TechTips Section of this website. Or you can look at www.howstuffworks.com

My Suzuki TS200R had vavles, its a liquid cooled 2 stroke street/trail. Suzuki makes other 2 strokes with valves too.

It's called a power valve for reference.

They are valves but not like a 4 stroke has...On a 4 stroke the valves are closed until needed on their stroke. On the two stroke, the "power" valve actually alters the shape of the "always open" exhaust port. By varying the size of the opening, it gives different power characteristics to the power delivery. Before power valves (roughly 82-83) all 2 strokes were extremely pipey. (either on or off)...
