Selector- where you the guy that went over the bars going thru the whoops?
No. I was on my CRF Saturday - my YFZ could only watch from the trailer. I was the one jumping the spine.

I wonder if it's the rod, or tranny. Or a dropped valve.
My guess from the begining is that it's a valve. The motor was running fine and all of a suddon, I hear the "clinking around" sound and she stopped. I'm guessing that the "clinking" was a dropped valve being compressed by the piston until there was no space left. Trying to move the kicker arm yielded diddly.

What would cause this? Is retarding the cam doing something? Maybe go with a real YZF cam next time? I dunno, just thinking of what would cause this pre mature breakage.

First: get some grammatical help!

Now to business...

Where did I say I opened the engine. I have every intent of going larger on the bore, but it hasn't happened yet. The parts are on my bench, but that's it.

I've already dropped the bike off and started the process. We'll see what happens. It's all about relationships & $. I've paid cash for (2) YFZs, sent others to them for purchases, etc. They do not want to loose me as a customer. I expect the machine will be fixed at little if any cost to me. I may be wrong and if I am, I'll be the first to admit it. With what I've done to this machine and the eyes I've opened up out there, I'm one hell of a spokesperson for Yamaha - and they don't need to pay me.

Watch and see.

I know where your coming from on this one. My first street bike made that same bolt in the coffee can sound. Some how the timing chain had jumped a tooth. The piston bent my exhaust valves. Lucky for me it happened while I was leaving a stop sign. If I had been going any faster I probably would have done a lot more damage. Good luck with the whole repair situation. I hope its not a yfz thing. I don't want to have to go thru that crap again

"Dear Yamaha,

Since purchasing two of your YFZ race quads, I have been acting as a de facto salesman for Yamaha motor company. Through my selfless efforts, I have increased the peformance of said unit, utilizing Genuine Yamaha GYTR parts in many cases, to a level heretofore unseen in lightweight 4 stroke race quads. As you know, I have created many buyers of YFZ's in the Utah and Idaho region, extending to other Rocky Mountain States.

My sales assistance unit has encountered a rather catastrophic engine malfunction. While it is in for repairs, I will require another unit for sales presentations in the dunes. Please have one delivered prior to Friday, September 26.

Attached to the engine repair bill will be my down-time invoice, in lieu of sales commissions. See my expense report for beer reimbursements (therapeautical value).

It has been very pleasureable working with Yamaha Motor Corporation as a field sales assistant. I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship. Your prompt attention to this small setback will be taken into account, in keeping the incident in-house. Just between us.

Sincerely,

Selector
