Default Raptor jetting problem

Oh and we went 3 turns out on the screws. My bike runs great with this jetting! I hope that I have helped you in some way. I know the Dyno Jet says don't change your pilot, but they also say don't put whole in your airbox. GOOD LUCK!

Default Raptor jetting problem

sixsixT, thanks again. i will definitely play with my floats and get them were i like it.

rc3, i understand the changing of the main jets, the 3rd grooves on the needles and the 3 turns out on the fuel mixture screws, but i don't understand the "1 size up on pilot's." what does that mean? do i have to buy something else? sorry, but i am not too advanced in engine work yet. my stupid dyno jet instructions don't tell me anything, except what i did. they don't say anything about changing pilot's or holes in the air box. i just cut the snorkel tabs because they said to and cut the two 1 and 3/4" holes because my yoshimura instructions said to.

thanks again to everyone who responded. it helps me out a lot and saves me some time and headaches. i just hope it doesn't rain tomorrow. later.

Just go to your local shop and tell them you need two pilot jets, one size up from stock! They are really easy to install. Just take the bottom of your carburater off and you will find it! It helps your throttle from idle to quarter throttle. your needle adjusts from 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle and your main jet's adjust 3/4 throttle to Full Throttle! And definatley go up to a 148 and 150 main jet do to cutting the wholes in air box. Once you get it dialed in you will love that set up!

Default Raptor jetting problem

My elevation is below 3000 feet. I tried running it and it does good until about mid throttle. It is then that it sputters. It is almost like running it with a rev limiter or something.
Mid throttle would deff be the needle or combo of needle and main jet. Were you even able to try at WOT and if so what happened?

I have helped a couple people set them up and was really suprised with the very different jetting needs of them. One alba full system and pro design/K&N filter with the suplied jets was so leaned out the guy had put his tee shirt in the snorkle to fatten it up and then bought a new snorkle assembly and didnt cut this one up, and another with a full E series same filter and the BS dyno kit with the snorkle mods and ended up needing larger main jets than supplied, and a third also with the E series and same mods ran great and needed no adjustments.

I guess what I am getting at is even in the same basic location with the same quad and mods etc jetting may not be the same. What I suggest is that you approach any jetting issues or set up the same and by that I mean work one circuit at a time and fatten it up till it bogs just a little then drop down one size (or keep it if you are concerned with cooking it or dont like to adjust or change jets often) and repeat for the needle etc and once you think you got it all finished do a few runs at specific throttle positions and pay close attention to what is happening then do a "throttle chop" plug test to confirm your settings are correct.

The pilot or slow jet (same thing) is used to meter the fuel delivery at idle only. If sized right the quad will start easier and idle better.

Some good jetting info below:
carb tuning

plug info

Have fun cause jetting is a blast.

I had the same problem with my Raptor. I ended up taking the airbox lid totally off and this fixed the problem. The only difference is that I'm running the medium TEC insert in my Yosh pipe. I run 146/148 main jets, 3rd needle clip, #25 pilot jets, and about 2.5 turns out on the idle screws. I never had a whole lot of luck until I took that airbox lid off though.

You're on the right track... it's a lot of trial and error while you're learning!!

well, i think i found out the problem. i adjusted my floats today and now it seems to be running good. i can now do wheelies without it bogging on me and it sounds like the sputtering has gone away. i guess the only thing i might have to be worried about is running too lean. anyone now how to tell if you are running lean? the yoshimura instructions say that if the exhaust turns blue or purple then it is running lean.

I think your mains will be fine if your going to use the lid. Check the plug after you've riden it some and see what color it is, doing a plug chop on it would be best.
You should be close to 3 turns out on the mix screws if your using the 22 pilots, if it's popping on decell. you could try turning the mix screws out a little more but not much. If you need to go more than a 1/4 turn more you need to go up on your pilot jets.
The needles you'll just need to play with but 3rd or 4th groove is probably where you'll end up.

JayBird.... On my pipe, the headpipes turned blue and it is jetted properly. The only blue portion is the "Around the corner" part just off the cylinder. Beyond that it has the "Right color" to it.

thanks again for responding. i will run it as it is now and check my plug. i don't think i have any popping on the deacell, but it does make this weird sound sometimes when i shut down the engine. it almost sounds like a flame coming out the exhaust. but i have watched the end of the tailpipe when it made the sound and no flame came out. it only does it sometimes.
