YFZ450 LIGHTING SUCKS
From what I understand, the 450's lighting was designed to suck. It runs directly off the stator instead of the battery so that a smaller/lighter battery could be utilized. Personally, I'd rather have the weight savings than to be able to ride faster at night. Sorry, I can't help you with your question though. I'm guessing that your are not a real MX fan.

Your are correct, the YFZ lights are garbage. They use the cheapest filaments they could find.
trail tech makes HID's for the bars. They are also making a flywheel for the YFZ that will more than double the stators output. They are making it in stock and lightened weights. A light flywheel with boosted stator power should be perfect for the dunes.

(im not and never will be an mxer), but when would an mxer even use lights? 99.9% of the time they just take em off anyway, so why not give the bike real lights and if youre an mxer, you can take em off, why punish the rest of us with crappy lighting!?

Hozed, have you compared the weight difference between the 450 and your bike (big difference for mx)? The point is, Yamaha shaved off weight everywhere they could and the overall result is a relatively light four-stroke quad that still retains electric start. Yamaha decided to fill a void in the racer category which does not see a large battery as being a priority (among countless other amenities of the casual rider). Don't take this as a rip on the Polaris because I'm the first to admit that the Predator is probably a better choice for a majority of ATV enthusiasts. The Raptor, DS, and the 400’s are also more general-consumer oriented. The YFZ is a niche bike and there is nothing wrong with somebody trying to adapt it for night duty. I was just pointing out the reason for the 450’s lack-luster stock lighting.

Thought that thing was the best mx'r to have ever landed, and you want lights? Do they race mx at night witht these things? I know that arena cross has lighting for the track and fans but do you really need an state of the art mx'r with lights?? Maybe you should'a bought a Grizz instead. LOL......
