Need Help ---- Raptor Wiring
Hi! It's been a while since I have been able to post in the forums or do anything with my quad, but since I have gotten back from my cross-country journy I had to put my quad back together from when i get the frame powder coated (silver frame looks beatiful ---- pissed that 03's did same thing) I got all the parts back from the move, accept one box that had a black wire, almost looked like a ground wire for something, it kinda resembled the negative batery lead wire. Everything else that was in that box, were pieces to the swing arm, washers, bolts, and so on which I have identified. But in my Service manual I cant seem to find out what the bloody wire is. Any help would be great.
PS I'll be back in So. Cal soon so if anyone wants a riding bud for dumont or glamis hit me up.
Thanks guys.

Any idea where the box should be located?? If you get too lost on its location, give me a shout in the forum when you get home. I'm in the same town, so I can stop by to help you out.....

Thanks, but you see the problem is, I was in Apple Valley but i moved up here to Washington for the summer. The frame was powder coated before I left for Washington. I tried to get it put together before I had to start the journy but failed, and had to put the rest in boxes and wait till I got here. Well I saw the stuff I needed when it got here, but then my dad "organised" the garauge and ended up tossing, or mixing in my parts with his various pieces, and he has collected a large number of washers bolts, wires and what not from being an electrical engineer so there is no chance i can find the stuff I need. I just need to find out what that one black wire is!!! THIS BOOK IS HARD TO UNDER STAND (wiring)
Thanks Anyways though!

Well there's only a limited number of places that a "Big" wire could go. My guess.... only a guess... is that it's the ground wire that hooks up on the left side of the engine just behind the starter. It's the only one that rings a bell to me. Just think that if it's big... it's got to do something big. Typically a starter circuit or something like that... included would be a starter ground.
Hope this helps

Im in the middle of swapping frames myself...just changed over the harness last night.
i agree with Black Widow...sounds like the the Block ground. if you can get a pic...post it and i'll confirm. or goto www.yamaha-motor and use the fiche to find and identify the wire.

The only large wires are the starter wire and ground wire. (and plug wire, i guess)
The black ground wire goes down the upper left subframe rail to the downtube and connects to the motor at one of the small case cover bolts. the starter wire which I think is also black (after the relay) goes to the starter ofcourse.

Well if the one end goes to the starter, then the other end goes to the starter relay. It's the whickerbill that the positive terminal of the battery goes to. Just put the starter wire on the other post of the relay opposite of where the battery wire attaches.
