Default What kind of gauge is needed to check valve clearance?

Is the gauge needed to check valve clearance a universal gauge that can be bought at an auto parts store?.... or should I look for a specific kind? Any one have any suggestions?

Any tips for a person who is fairly new to engines and is going to check his valve clearance (using a service manual for the walk thru) for the first time?

Auto parts store or Sears would be your best bet for feeler guages. they range form .002 thru .045 thousands. they also read metric or standard stamped on each feeler guage.

Dietcokeofevil, first I have heard of that name.

"Diet Coke of Evil" is from the first Austin Powers movie... the scene where Dr. Evil is giving his son "Scott" such a hard time about not being evil enough... "just one calorie... not evil enough" Since my name is Scott others have felt it their duty to give me that nickname heh heh.
