yfz450 vs yz450f
Sorry, just found this thread, thought I would more or less speak up. I think to put it simply, A stock 125 motocrosser would put give the quad fits. close to identical horsepower and a fraction of the weight.
Bikes will always when this one, unless of course someones racing a nitrous banshee against a stock cr 125 or something.
I have been riding for almost 30 years, 80% of that on Bikes. I use quads as recreational trail riding and putting around the house. When it comes to blasting up hills, the bikes rule, flat out hauling, the bikes rule, huge jumps, the bikes rule.

Finally, I found the site with the videos.
Check out these vids:
Two bikes getting smoked by almost every quad in the line on sand
http://www.eskimo.com/~daddog/videos/golotsa.wmv
Side by side drags (look at the 40 sec mark. Two bikes in the lineup)
http://www.eskimo.com/~daddog/videos/golotsa2.wmv
Hillclimbing
http://www.eskimo.com/~daddog/videos/zyzcr450.wmv
One thing you can't tell is if the bikes are running paddles.....
And check out the other videos.

This guy has some really awesome stuff. If you love the YFZ, you will love the vids.
It's even got a vid of an 800cc snowmobile motor in a banshee frame approaching 60mph UP choke cherry!
Check out the stock YZF to a YZF with cam, airbox and baffle mod. Holy $%^!!!

A buddy of mine has the YZ450 and a friend of his has the YFZ450. They only ride in the dirt/gravel, so I can't attest to the sand-tire-traction issue, but he told me that in a flat drag (which they did numerous times) on a gravel road, the quad jumped out in front for the first 20-30 feet, until the YZ got traction, and then the quad got blown away.
