Is it good when you take off your starter and it shakes with little bits inside. I guess the brushes broke.

That doesn't sound good. Why did you take it off, not turning?...just curious.
Those brushes were a huge pain to get back in mine. good luck.

Did your starter stop working? If it did they might have broke but if it still works there is two washers inside mine that make a noise like that, dont know if a raptor would have them or not. I just got it rebuilt and it still does it.

Yes the starter does not work at all. Has voltage and ground. The starter sounds like sand and rocks inside rolling around when shaking it.

Probably broke the brushes (hopefully) or the magnets (not hopefully)

No harm in pulling it apart to see?! If its toast I will buy the armature from you for an experiment

I'll pull it apart tomorrow. It can't be any good news inside of it, with the way it sounds.

I decided to rebuild my starter today, what a pain in the butt! but there is a HUGE difference between now and when it was tired, sounds like it has ALOT more power and speed.

I have some wav files to hear it

before

After!

Both times were with a fully charged battery.

I Changed the brushes (yamaha OEM $$$$) and cleaned the commutator with 2000 grit sandpaper until the copper sparkled. Then I cleaned and made sure everything was properly lubed up and replaced the o-rings to keep a good seal. 2 hour job and 4 hands would be nice.
