New to Yamaha
#1
I picked up a 2000 bear tracker today in mint condition for my wife and older children. In that this is our first ATV - what can I expect from Yamaha? Also - do most folks choose to leave these machines stock - or do they make some type of modifications?
Appreciate your input.

I had a Timberwolf, first year model. All I can say about those bikes is make sure the rear is maintained properly! We lost 2 to rear end bearings going out and messing up the gears.
Other then that, I don't think we ever changed oil in the bikes, and rode them EVERY day for work around the farm!

I have a 99' Yamaha Beartracker and to be honest, I have kinda beat thre **** out of it. I know, I'm bad.
But, I have never had a problem with anything on it. I have hauled things on it and it runs fine. I bought a Megamax for it last year and it's awesome. Once you wear out the stock tires (there stock I'm assuming?), pick up some dirt devils for it in the rear atleast....they get awesome traction and look pretty sweet. If you have any questions about it, lemme know and I'll try to answer em.
Leave em stock? Well..you see I bought a MegaMax, and I also have a K&N Filter.
If you don't wanna go with a pipe, I'd buy a K&N Filter if you wanna do anything. Gives some more power.
Remeber Any questions you have about it, just ask me.

Warrior 68- I appreciate your thoughts. My son and I rode today and I really like the machine. I know that their are more sporty models out on the market - but I picked this up for $1,750 - and it really is in perfect condition. So. In that this is my first ATV - what is a megamax, what should I expect to pay for it - how difficult is it to install my own air filter and pipe?
Once again - I appreciate the repsone

FMF Megamax...Exhaust Pipe...Comes with plates and quite core insert....you can make it as quiet as it is stock....or louder than a harley with straight pipes. And it's basicly just bolt on. I think I paid about $205 for mine....and a K&N Filter is about 50 bucks.

By the way, if you get a megamax...you will need to rejet the carburator.
