I was wondering, what brand or oil do you run in your quad? OEM Yamaha, or a quality aftrmarket? if aftermarket, what brands?

thanks

I am friends with Guy Cooper/Steve Hatch's former factory mechanic (Marshall Plumb, marshallsracing.com) and have had the opportunity to see some raw test data from an independent source. The test was funded by Suzuki for their off-road GNCC team. It confirmed my belief that Maxima is some pretty good stuff. I can't remember any specifics or other brands tested, it's been quite a while, but they were all moto specific. Maxima is all I run, and all I ran before seeing the test data. Take a look at the factory Suzukis, they all run Maxima. Damn good stuff! Just my $0.02.

PS:
If you look through the pics on his site, that really is one of Travis Pastrana's practice bikes. I've met him a few times and he's a great guy!

Kendall motorcycle racing oil or Redline. Redline is really expensive though.

Does anybody run car oil? I just use simple Castrol 10x40 in mine but was thinking of going synthetic. Is that bad?

Any oil is better than none. I ain't say'n what I run, 'cause I don't know. I just a big box of quarts sitting up there on the shelf - tain't nuth'n fancy er special but my motors don't care. They just want me to pay attention to them.

Well I started out with Torco and had good luck with that for engine/trans oil. I recently (last 2 oil changes) have been trying Valvoline's ATV or Motorcycle blend (pretty sure it's the same oil with different lablels). No problems as of yet but I'm not running a high horsepower bike though either!!!
