Default 400ex vs warrior power-wise?

Hey, it's different strokes for different folks right? Some people would find the EX's lack of reverse a nuisance, other's would find it's width bothersome in tight trails.

The EX is not way faster than a Warrior. It tops out a couple mph faster Warrior is 61-62mph, Ex is 64-65. It is a quicker, more agile machine for sure, but it's not way faster.

I've actually started looking for an EX myself, though I don't expect to find one around my area. I'd keep the Warrior for my wife.

As for JackalWarrior; about riding an EX and a Warrior at 75 to see which is more stable ... I notice you are from the US, so I presume you're talking in MPH .. neither the EX nor the Warrior are capable of reaching those speeds stock (other than on a trailer or in a truck bed) and you're talking some decent mods to even get an EX up to that speed.

Does the Warrior really have 18RWHP stock? I thought that would have been at the crank, but would be happy to know otherwise

Both are great machines, but designed for different purposes. And both are a hoot to drive, though the Warrior suspension definitely needs improvment .. see my page for an example of the weak Warrior suspension ....

the 400ex is a great quad. Handles well, is fairly nimble, reliable, somewhat light, great for racing, etc.
The warrior doesnt handle too well(better than a utility tho), is heavy, not exactly powerful, and the motor is even less advance than the 400. However the warrior seems to have a great rider position for long trail rides and the seat is insanely comfortable. It has reverse, and the quad is really durable. So put it this way, your best bet would be to get a z. So far its been reliable, its more powerful than a warrior and EX and it has reverse, and its liquid cooled. To be honest id go for that.

BTW, ive owned a warrrior and ridden many EX's.

Thanks, I figured that it would be kinda like that. The ex would also have better a suspension setup for the desert/dunes, right? Thanks agian

my warrior runs 65-68mph.. with stock gears.. and another thing (big diff in price exspecially when buying a used one.. on FMF's site they'd dyno'd a warrior and it was 32hp stock (at the crank)

I gave $2300 for my 98 warrior which was dam cheap.. a 98 books at $2800.. and if i was to get a used 400ex i woulda of been looking at $3500-$3800 at least and for a younger kid with lil money it doesnt take long too make up ur mind between those figures

i wanted a 400ex if i could of.. but i liked the warrior and its my first sport quad.. it has enough power for me at the moment

I saw the dyno chart you refer to. FMF listed the wrong machine with that chart. A built Warrior will barely make that power. It is certainly not the YFM350X. I just dont see the machine losing nearly half the power from the crank to the rear wheels. Regardless, I own a 98 Warrior that I bought new. It has the FMF performax pipe, had a mikuni VM36 carb and it never came close to a bone stock 400EX. It topped out at 63mph on the GPS but couldnt accelerate with the EX, I never ran a top speed run against a stocker tho.

I've seen that dyno chart too .. just after I bought my Warrior and was really surprised at the numbers .. I thought to myself at that point "Coooool", not knowing any better.

The only mod made to my Warrior at present is the FMF Powercore IV exhaust. I don't know what gains are realized from the pipe addition since it was on when I bought the quad. Until last weekend, the highest speed I got was 102.2km/h. This past weekend, with the cooler temperatures we're having now I squeezed her up to 109.9km/h as measured by the Trailtech which calc's your speed based on the inputted tire circumference. I weigh in at about 165-170, probably closer to 175 with coat and boots on .. so I guess a lighter person could reach those speeds more easily.

I'm hoping to do an airbox mod soon and rejet for a little more power, but I'm also dropping down to a 12T front sprocket for more low end. I don't often get to run the Warrior up to speeds over 100km/h .. not even up to 80km/h all that often .. mostly just around 40 - 70 ..

I rode a Warrior for years, and was never so happy as the day I sold it and got the 400EX!! When you consider how fast a vehicle will go, everybody concentrates on the engines and forgets about the suspension. All the power in the world is worthless without a suspension/chassis that makes it workable. The Warrior doesn't have either!!

I dont know how you've come to the conclusion the TRX450R wont come close to the YFZ450, to my knowledge nobody's compared them head to head yet. You must work for Honda or Yamaha to have that information. Please enlighten us on the testing you've done.
