Default Kodiak 400 ?'s

Hey I have a few questions on the 2004 Kodiak 400 2x4. To start off, this would be my first fully auto quad. I was wondering if when you start from a stop does the engine rpm's increase with speed or do they jump to say half throttle and stay there and your speed just increases. This may sound confusing but does it work like a manual quad just without shifting how the rpms will rev out in 1st gear then drop down in 2nd gear or do they stay at steady rpm and your speed increases? Also, anyone have any comments on this ATV? I only need 2 wheel drive and I am looking closely at the Kodiak but I want a few opinions before I buy. Your help is appreciated.

The engine rpm vary. They will keep going up. It doesn't go up and then back down like a standard as it is a variable automatic. It doesn't shift per se like some automatics. It just keeps gradually changing ratios as the rpm increases or decreases.

Kodiaks are rock solid. I had several 4X4 Kodiaks. I wish I had the 2X4 version. I rarely used 4X4.

Autos work just like cars except the shifting is almost unnoticable unless you are paying attention to the sound of the engine. What I mean is the acceleration will stay constant and the trans will shift until you reach the top speed acquireable by that amount of throttle.

Note on the kodiak 400s that they are not the same as the older ones, say a 2000 model. Not only did they take away low range they made the gearing higher. I say that so you know if you ever do decide to start mud riding this machine will not turn bigger tires easily. I have read several complaints about this aspect of the new kodiak 400s, both 2wd and 4wd models. Other than that you can be sure they are bulletproof.
