I just bought my '04 about 5 months ago, but I have yet to have any sputtering problems with it. My old Griz would sputter in extreme heat on slow rock crawls, but it never had a problem with water(except for the occasional transmission flood). It was heat that my engine disliked, and water that my transmission disliked. I think Yamaha finally fixed the problem in '04.

I purchased a 2004 Grizzly a couple of months ago. I have been in deep water and mud two or three times. Each time, I have experienced spitting and sputtering. It was actually pretty embarrassing. The motor wouldn't pull a greasy string out of a cat's hind end. The water actually wasn't all that rediculously deep, and It never took a drop of water into the air box. Really not sure what is going on. It clears up immediately after coming out of the water though. Anyone have any suggestions.
