Blaster- how important is porting and polishing?
I have a 2000 Yamaha Blaster and I am about to have the head shaved but I wonder while it is apart should I go ahead and have it ported and polished. Is it worth it. Will there be a NOTICABLE power diffrence if I do it? I have yet to decide what degree to have it shaved. I dont want to give up reliability. I plan to 4wheel with it as well as go fast. Does anyone have a good combination of shaving the head and porting & polishing??

I wount go over .020 if you still want to run pump gas and not cause any heating problems when easy riding it. As far as porting.......... most people dont believe the difference it makes. Just like the Banshee the Blaster has small ports. Porting can be done to keep the power gains from the bottom to mid range, but top end will benefit as well. Race porting probably wouldnt be the way for you to go from what your saying. You need someone to work the intakes and exhaust some and that would greatly increase power but not affect reliability. By the way, I am in AR and have done several Blaster cylinders.Bubba

I am just affraid that I have done all of this for nothing if I only do .020
If I only have the head shaved and not have it ported and polished would I notice a diffrence?
What about .030, that is what I kinda had in mind. I dont mind using premium gas or even racing gas just as long as I can tell a diffrence in power (it is worth it to me) but the real thing is making sure it dosent get hot. At .030 do you think it would get too hot on trails and is there a power diffrence in .020 and .030?
