500 WARRIOR
#1
What does anyone think about a 500 warrior. I am not wanting to buy the new raptor so would anyone think that it would be worth it to bore the warrior out to a 500? And does anyone have a bored out warrior, if so about what was the price range?

The kit from Four Stroke Tech, which takes the motor from a stock 348cc to 490cc, runs about $2500.00. As I recall they use a cylinder from a Kodiak with a Warrior piston, new cam, bore the carb for more airflow, and do quite a bit of machining on the bottom end so everything clears. Power was said to be quite a bit more than a stock Banshee. The FST 490 Warrior had a +3 front sprocket, custom Axis shocks, and a longer swingarm to handle the increased power. For my money, I wouldn't do it. I would wait and check out the new Raptor, particularly the suspension componets, before spending $4000 plus on the 490 kit. The magazine guy who rode the FST 490 said "it wasn't just a 500, it was a high performance 500." That's why I believe it would be necessary to at least change the shocks if you went for the 490 kit.

It just aint worth it! I have a 98 Warrior that I am gonna keep for the wife and because it's a nice quad. It's getting a cam and high comp piston soon. However I'm hoping to buy a new Raptor in March '01 because to build a Warrior up to that point just doesnt make financial sense. Dont get me wrong the Warrior is a great ride but after you spend over $2000 on the motor and another $800 on suspension you would have a total (including Warriors value) of nearly what the new Raptor cost.
