I'm in the market for a trailer to haul my 1 atv aound, what size bed do you guys recommend? 4x6, 4x8, 5x8. Now i really don't know much about this stuff since its gonna my first time driving with a trailer so any input would be greatly appreciated. Also if you can, give me some website addresses that sell trailers.

 

just go get the walmart $199 4x8 trailer, and some wood slat sides, and youll have room for the quad, gas, tools, etc etc. i drug one around for years and it worked fine. I hinged a tailgate to the back and bolted a couple 2x6s to it for ramps so that clanking ramp can stay at home! In fact is still use that little trailer even tho i have 2 pickups now.. i've got pictures if you wanna see em, let me know.

 

Another suggestion would be the Harbor Freight 4X8 folding trailer. I've got the heavy duty version with 12" wheels/tires. I got in on sale for $239.95. It tows great and folds up for easy storage in the garage. Once folded, it stores in a 6' tall X 5' wide X 2' deep space. Only takes about 5 minutes to fold up or down.

 

I too am looking for a trailer to haul a single atv. I like your idea raptor8, pictures?

 

Also, I forgot to mention, that the Harbor Freight trailer tilts all the way to the ground for easy loading. No ramps needed.

 

Depending on what you are pulling with, get the largest one possible. We have used the smaller trailers for some time and have now moved on to bigger trailers for more quads. The absoloute smallest I would go is a 5x8 with 15" wheels and tires. These are very durable trailers that pull better than the smaller ones, with 12" tires. I recently had a 6'9"x12' built that holds a 250R and banshee end to end or 250R, Banshee and Z400 all sideways. My only regret is that I should have gotten a 7x14. The longer swingarms on the 250R and Banshee make them difficult to turn sideways. The inside (between the fenderwells)dimensions of an average full size truck bed is around 4x6, so any of the trailers you mentioned will haul the quad, however they may not be as stable at speed. Other than a tandem axle 16 ft. my 12 ft. is the best pulling trailer I have had. Nic.

 

I've had no problems pulling my Raptor(on my Harbor Freight trailer) at 80+ MPH with either my 1978 Bronco or my 1999 Grand Marquis. The trailer is low and light enough(maybe 250lbs) that trailer sway is nill. 12" tires are more than sufficient for freeway speeds. They're are several production automobiles that come equipped with them. Having a bigger trailer than necessary just eats more gas and makes it harder to store. That's why I have this little trailer. My 24 foot enclosed Trail Boss is just too much of a pain to drag around if I don't need all the space. Hence the little trailer.

 

I think AZ and I are talking about the same trailer, except he opted for the 12" rims where mine are 8". I wasnt worried about it as most boat trailers are also 8", and it's worked fine. I tried the tilt feature a few times, but thot that slam down might bend the tongue, it hits pretty hard, so I bolted it down. It does still fold up, but i park it back by the barn - i need my garage space! hehe
