Default Finally pulled the trigger

Well first I have to thank everyone who answered my threads and gave their input towards buying an ATV. I picked up a 99 Wolverine lastnight!! It is in pretty good shape and I feel like I got it for a good price. It needs a few things (personal preference) but I think I will be more than happy buying some extras. It does have one modification that I am not sure about. It has been switched to a twist throttle in lieu of the thumb. Don't know if I can get used to it. What do you guys think about a twist throttle? It also has some aftermarket headlights that work great, but just look a little funky. I do need to find 2 things right away. It needs a new tail light/lense and I would like to find a front rack to mount on it. Thanks to everyone who gave their 2 cents worth, it really helped me make an imformed decision.

Try your local Yamaha dealer for the tailight lense. They probably have it in stock, if not they should be able to get it quick.

Congrats on the Wolverine! Excellent machine

I have never ridden an ATV with a twist throttle, so I don't really have an educated opinion, but I must say, I love my thumb throttle! Just IMO

I heard Yammy quit making that front rack...Ya know the one that is shaped like the front fenders...The 03 models come with out them...I know where a used front factory rack is ...not being used...If your interested PM me....You can probably still get new ones at the dealerships though....I ya really don't like the twist throttle I will trade with you....I have been wanting to try one myself....The tail light lens is like $5.00 at the dealer...just bought one a couple weeks ago.
Congrats on your Wolvy... Well is it blue or green? Let us know If ya got any ?s don't be afraid to ask
most of these guys are fairly helpful

Thanks. I would be interested in that rack and I will send you a PM here shortly. It looks like I am going to need the whole lens assembly. One of the stantions is broken off and there is no socket for a lamp. But then again who needs a tail light when everyone will be eating my dust anyway HA HA HA. Just kidding. The twist throttle I am still on the fence about. I will have to ride it awhile before I can decide.
It is blue. kinda wish it was green but beggers can't be choosers.

If ya got to get the whole assembly you can update to one with a brake light in it also...my Wolvy does not have a brake light either but I wish it did.

If your interested in the green I might trade ya.... I have an extra set with fender flares that I use for colorado riding only. They are the lighter green that came out in 95. If interested, give me a pm.

Congrats on buying a wolverine. You won't be disappointed. And like shastadog said, don't be aftaid to ask for help or info.

Welcome aboard.

Ride On.

IMO the throttle sitation depends on your riding technique.
like, when you corner fast and are driving hard, do you grip down with your hands and squeeze? thats the first thing I noticed first time I drove a twist
throttle, every corner I took I hammed on the gas even though I didnt want to.
also, you may also have to adjust your grip when going to full throttle
which kinda sucks and it's a little uncomfortable to use like that.

other than that, I dont have any problems with twist throttles

Twist throttles arent made for quads.. quads being heiverer than dirtbikes .my sister broke her back because of a twist throttle. They cause you to panic rev the only situtation ther good in it if your bigger or if you just like riding casually and not fast. But thats my opinon and its mostly fuled by my sister breaking here back but anyways have fun !

Its a personal opinion and choice. I hate twist thottles on quads. I used one for 6 months on a 250X I used to own and I could never get used to it. I didn't care for the lack of control I had when hitting whoops and jumps. It did work good for wheelying. I'd go with a thumb.
