I have a '01 shee. i recently replaced the engine. i am having trouble getting it started. and with a little help from some carb cleaner it finally starts. it doesnt idle and fires on one piston decently and speratic on the other one. I've cleaned the carbs really well and wonder if there is anyone who has been in a similar situation or may know how to eliminate this problem.

Sounds like maybe you have a vacuum leak. Check around the carb boots by spraying some WD40 or similar around them. If it picks up and runs better then you know that this is where your problem is. The other suggestion I have is that your choke may not be working right.

You said that you "Replaced" the engine. Where did it come from? Did it run right before you got it or was it a "buy it off the floor" deal??

Last suggestion... are your spark plugs new?? If not, replace them.

Hope this helps and good luck!

well i siezed the original motor and instead of getting rebuilt i bought one on e-bay. the bike sat for 8 months while i was in iraq and i didnt have a chance to put it all back together until i got back. from what i can see compression is good. it is blowing alot of oil out of the pipes when it is running. i'm running a 32:1 ratio. i try to open up the throttle and it gets sounds really throghty coming out of the airbox, and the revs stay pretty much the same.

Hmm... it really sounds like spark plugs just off hand. Did you try replacing them?

yes i sure did. i seem to think it is either the cdi or the ignition coil. i'm leaning more towards the cdi unit.

Check the flywheel to see if it is loose on the crank. Could have sheared the keyway.

Also check the cranking pressure, should not be more than 5psi difference between the cylinders.

I don't remember exactly how those things are set up but I do know that both cylinders fire at the same time. In other words, each spark plug is fired twice each revolution of the crankshaft.

I don't know if this makes any difference in your case at all but I figured that I'd mention it.
