Default Frame cutting and Welding

Does it weaken a frame to cut and weld on it? Im going to have to weld on motor mounts, cut part to make for the pipes, and strengthen it to put up with more HP.

If it's done right it can be stronger, but a good weld is generally 80 to 90 percent of the strength of what is welded.

Well my old man has been welding for like 40 years and is professional but he seems to think the heat will make the frame weak or something.

Arc welding generates a lot of heat, and could weeken some parts of the welded parts of the frame. Mig welding would be better, Tig welding would be the best.

I agree with Ernie. You can also anneal the welded area by taking a torch and heating the welded area and then let it cool slowly in an area where the air is still.
