Default Warrior lighting....

i have been wanting to upgrade my lighting on my quad for some time now.... i saw yamaha offers a piaa kit but whose has that kind of money??..... i want to go with some KC lights, found some 5x7's that are 55watt but what i cant decide is what style....driving or long range??

i know long range will be lots brighter but probaly wont give me enough of a flood to see to the left and right sides of me out front....

>the long range makes around 90,000 candlepower and the driving makes around 57,000 candlepower

>and the warrior should be able to handle 55 watts lights right? yamaha offers a 55watt light kit so i figured it should

KC lights

If they look the same (just different optics), why not try one of each. One to reach out in the distance, one to light up things wider and closer. Best of both worlds.

I would say that since Yamaha is selling a drop in 55W light for the PIAAs they sell, they should work without a problem.

I was also going to suggest installing one long-range light and one wide-angle light, but with a twist. Since the lighting configuration is currently side by side, then your long-range and wide-angles would be off centre. I'd suggest making up a modified mounting to have them one over the other, or maybe mount the long range down off the bumper and the wide-angle up in the normal position.

I'm not sure about the electrics side of it. The rectifier is a 20A unit, and two 55W lights will consume a little over 9amps of that. The lights are your biggest consumer, so I suspect that you should be fine. You might just have to make sure you turn the lights off before you try starting the bike. The stator will have a withstand rating of so many amps more than the rated, but it's never good to subject it to very high currents repeatedly. You'll eventually break down the winding insulation and fry the stator.
