Could be a bad ground connection, from the relay, or it could be that the starter draws alot more amps from the battery than the lights do. If its brand new, take it back to the dealer and let him fix it under warrentee work.
I use to think itd be difficult to puul start my 450 foreman, but even when the temp is 20 F, itll start on second pull, I tried doing it, because i wanted to know what to expect if i ever needed to out on the trail. I dont worry about it, now that i see how easy it starts.

That's not good. This is a brand new quad right? Funny thing is, the 2nd time i went to ride my Kodiak, I hit the start button and all it did was click. I figured I left the lights on or something so I hooked up the jumper cables to the Kodiak and my Jeep and the quad fired right up. I've never had the problem since then, and I still don't know if I had left the light switch or the engine on/off switch on. I don't even know if one of these two things would cause it.

i took it back to the dealer and they only said it was the battery, but i saw the techs working on it and shaking their heads, looking at the service manual??? and when they tried to start it, it made that grinding noise, then the service manager said it was only the battery, then i asked, how come they are tearing off the side panels and looking through the service manual, and he denied that it made that noise???wtf i saw it with my own eyes!!!

Honestly, it might have been just the battery. They were probably taking off the side panels for troubleshooting, but figured out it was the battery. You should always start w/ the simplest things when troubelshooting, i.e. in this case, the battery. If it happens again, at least you know what to do. Lets hope it doesn't happen again though.

do ya think it could have something to do with all the electronics that it has cause i know that on my recon i have never had any trouble with the battery going dead or being low and it is 4 years old and running strong.

I just had a similar problem last week w/ my 2004 Kodiak. Apparently the battery terminals weren't tight. A little Dielectric tune up grease and a screwdriver fixed that.

I had the same problem when we went riding this weekend. I was soo pissed off that I just held in the starter button to burn the friggin relay out so it would be replaced under warranty, but after a couple seconds of buzzing it started??
