Either I am a slow worker or take too much time to drink beer during my work.
The first time you get into your engine I would expect the work to take at least 6 hours. There are little things you learn. I seemed to have a tough time getting the cam in and getting the timing chain around it. It is also a bit of a pain to check your valve clearances. . . but, sounds like you have already done that.
