Moose are very dangerous animals. Lets just leave it at that.
Those pictures of that Grizzly and the guy who was ate were awsome. The bear knew exactly where the most meat was too.
As far as Hiking through Alaska with a .38 goes. I've hiked several times through Grizzly country in Montana without any kind of weapon at all. Other than a fly pole to use when I get to the back country lakes. Call me stupid.

I think the bear would actualy stand up and start laughing at me if I tried whipping it with my fly pole.
I remember reading a story from a newspaper while In Montana one time.
There was a hiker who came accross a Grizzly. He took his back pack off and threw it at the bear to keep him occupied so he could get away. He went to the ranger station to report the siteing like your told to do. The Ranger said thanks for reporting and then fined the guy. Why?
The guy had some candy bars or somthing in his back pack. Now the bear will recognize people as a source of food.
I bet that guy never reports another bear siteing again. Or at least doesn't tell them about any possible food source. LMAO.

although is does make some sense... the bear will go to people more if he gets food thrown at him...
****.. depending on the candy bar.. i might charge at people in hopes of free candy...
