I had the same problem with my axle, only mine was from my so called friend taking a fat brass hammer to the end of it trying to install it after a bearing job. I was pissed!! I contacted a local machine shop, and told them my problem, and they fixed me right up. The machinist had to put it on a lathe, and reverse cut the threads, and it worked like a charm, cost about $60.00. Good luck!

Take a close look at the damaged area. Will this area be under the nut once it has been threaded on fully? If not, you can take a fine File and remove the damaged threads in the area of concern. This will allow you to get the nut started and run on past the bad section.
If the damaged area is the length of the threads, you then have a slight problem. I would still file the beginning so that you can get the nut started, and then with a bit of penetrating fluid, work the nut on a little and then back. Sometimes with a bit of luck, you can get the damaged area somewhat straightend out.
Good Luck and Ride On.

Had the same problem. Here is the trick my buddy used and bailed me out of an axle. He had me buy two new nuts and he put four grooves in them each in the inside so it looked like a thread chaser you purchase at a mechanic shop. Then he filed the threads like 95Wolverine mentioned. Then with the wd40 he went to town and brought it back like new. You dont want to go full force on the threads just a little at a time. Screw on, Screw off...... hehehehe Just keep the wd40 going and just do a little bit at a time, then after about have way thru the bad section switch to the other new nut that you had cut grooves in as well and finish the job. The grooves you cut in the new nuts are what cleans the debris out of the threads after it cuts it. If you dont understand what I am talking about just pm with your email address and I will send you some pics or drawings.
Later and good luck.
