Default Warrior Vs. 400EX

you have to love these discusions I know I do .....

Anyhow I thinking that since I own both these machines and have rode several different ones in various stages from fully stock to heavilly modded and even a couple that were just generally screwed up, and I have to tell you that though there both fun to ride and excelent at different things etc there not all that compareable at all.

I know there will come a time I get tired of saying this but the warrior is just set up in a way that even with more power its just a tough machine to "muscle" around a mx track or XC course etc. Its great on rough rocky terrain and is a capable trail machine no doubt, but its nothing like the 400ex and the difference gets larger when there both modded.

Not just talking drag race type stuff but the overall changes and performance of the machines. Just like how the newer tech 450R will replace many of the current 400ex's in racing due to the liquid cooling and better performing valvetrain etc (just makes and controll more HP in the long run) is like how the 2 valve engine in the warrior compares to the 400EX. Plus when you throw in the weight, handling and just how the controlls and seating postion are set up the differences are even more obvious.

I seriously like the warrior its a great machine and was one of the better performance quads for a long time, and especially in the woods. But its day as a top contender have long been over, sad but true. I know a few guys who just refuse to ride anything but yamaha and have constant delusions of how there going to make their warriors faster than this and that etc, just not going to happen.

Enjoy what you have and when your liking it any longer move on to what you think you will like next, but save yourself a lot of disapointment and dont try to make the machine more than it can be and put your $$$ towards the next one.

Default Warrior Vs. 400EX

440EX026, good post...
I have a warrior, and at first I was gonna put some money into it to make it faster, but instead we sold my wife's 250EX, and I bought the Z-400, (same ball-park with the 400EX). The warrior is a great machine, but from what I've read, it's engine is limited.
NLWarrior01, do what I did, give the warrior to your wife, (you'll still get to ride it believe me) and get a 400EX or whatever....

id go for a kfx or ltz 400 instead. the 400ex is becoming quite outdated in the sport 400 category. the kfx/z400 puts out a few more hp and cost almost the same as an ex. btw, if your heart is set on an ex, just search for it in these forums for info, the warrior v. ex question has been discussed a couple thousand times.

For someone who must buy new etc that makes a lot of sense, but for someone who has to ride red your still going to be way ahead of the game picking up one of the many 1-3 year old 400ex's that are going for a killer price.

When I see half way modded 400ex examples with an asking price around or below $3,000 I immediately think what a bargain that is. Sure if its trashed its not worth it but I try to get the trashed ones for $500 so I can do them up and sell them etc, but just dont seem to be finding any because there still in demand used.

Your comparison of the two Z vs EX is spot on also.
