Big Bear Hard to Get out of Reverse
#1
After shifting into reverse it is hard to shift it back out to neutral. It is almost like the shifter is hung on something and I have to reach down and grab it with my hand to pull it up and out of reverse. It requires quite a bit of force to pop it out. It seems to be better after it has warmed up and been ridden for a while. Does something need to be adjusted? I shoul add that it shifts in other gears just fine.

It almost sounds like the idle is a little high. My old kodiak would do that if it was idling to high. Try turning the idle down to see if it helps. Let us know it this help maybe we will have something else to try.

I used to own a big bear and always had the same problem,... i would have to reach down with my hand to get it in
what works sometimes is to use your body weight and rock it around while trying to shift it.

THATS FUNNY I CALLED THE DEALER ABOUT MY BIG BEAR TODAY FOR THE SAME REASON THEY TOLD ME IT COULD BE THAT THE IDLE IS TO HIGH OR CHECK THE CHOKE AND MAKE SURE IT IS COMPLETELY OFF

Well I backed off the idle some and that seemed to fix it. I do not have a gauge to tell the RPM's I am idling at now. I just backed off a quarter turn and shifts fine now. Thanks for the input.

It needs to be warmed up. I have an '02 Big Bear and it does the same thing. The oil in the trans needs to be warm for it to shift smoothly. I even have Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil in mine and it's still a little cranky when it's cold. Let it warm up a little before you go and it should be fine.
