Blue 01'(second owner) bought in August 03' still on original 01' gears(and praying!). One way went out about 3 weeks after I bought it. Replaced it with the L&A designs bearing, and no probs since.

Heres I thread I started alittle while ago. Whenever I'm wishing I had the money to go buy a Yfz I look at it and it makes me feel a little bit better.

The Raptor was not available until early Sept of 2000. We on the East coast got their Raptors first....mine was the first available at my dealer in late Sept 00. Anyway....my first 1 way went out in about 10 months and my tranny let go a little over a year after purchase. Best I could figure I had about 200 hours on my Raptor when the trans went down.

Got mine mid 2001
Original tranny broke over the New Years dune trip Dec 2002
2nd tranny (02 conversion) went over New Years trip Dec 2003

Odd - I made it clean through the Thanksgiving trips ??

Lesson learned - the trannys are OK - it's New Years that is the problem - I'm stayin home next year

PS - the boots blowing off is likely due to tight intake valves - IMO

One reason I was asking, if Yamaha made so many in the beginning to get ready for sell, just to throw a # out 2000 units. Then they saw that this was going to be a big demand then started mass producing and started throwing in cheaper parts to get the #'s out. I was looking at my friends Raptor last night that he bought mid 01 and his frame and some other stuff looked different then mine. Like no time was spent on putting it together We ride ours the same and take care of them, pretty much still look brand new.

I was also talking to a guy here at work about the situation going on with the Raptors on what is breaking and causing alot of money being spent to fix the problem and the risk of somebody getting hurt. He told me that it usually take 3 or 4 years or maybe longer to get a recall in affect. Just like the past two weeks with GM recall and Chyslers recall. I know this doesn't make sense, but it was just a concern I had.

garyc660r the date I gave was wrong, I looked at my purchase receipt last nite and it was August 10th 2000. My down payment was given on June 2nd 2000.
