Blue Raptor stolen in Kenner (New Orleans area)

Write down all the facts and get together any info you can. Write down the times and dates that certain things happened and write down all the cops names and what their parts were. This will allow you to remember facts when needed. Write down everything! It wouldn't hurt to talk to a lawyer before too many people blow smoke your way.
Just a suggestion for anyone with a quad. Buy a little etching thingy. Etch the vin number in different locations on your quad. (where people wouldn't see it) Then if a quad is stolen you can tell the police where to find the vin numbers that were etched. Most likely the thief will remove the original vin numbers.
Hope everything works out.
I would be tempted to leave the other quad out in plain view over the weekend. Then just sit and wait for them to show their face again. They probably still want the other quad and they know where to find it. It wouldn't hurt to setup a video camera on it to see if anyone shows up while your at work. They might just show up to see what they'll need to get it at a later time.

BTW, this happened over a month ago. So far, no attempted repeat on the Grizzly.
I have VERY little information from NOPD. Still waiting for a return call.
I talked to my dad again today and he told me if they keep giving me the run around, to contact a friend of his who is a lawyer If I don't receive any solid information by tomorrow afternoon, NOPD will have a letter from a lawyer next week

man... haveing a quad stolen is pretty bad... but then to have it stolen twice!!! ****... with your luck i dont know how you could own another quad and not put insurance on it after this mess. lol
good luck with everything... i hope it all works out... kinda odd that there was never a report written on it and then have it stolen from the impound... maybe some pig has himself a nice raptor to cruise around on now... i doubt it... but hey... it could happen!

Kraw, Sorry about your bike that really sucks! I dont know what i would do if someone took my baby. What else can you do?! But to just sit and wait or to go out and look for it. Why didnt you put it in your barn or something? I keep mine looked up and covered inside my barn, and i still think about someone taking it. I hope it wasnt a new one! 7,000 dollars and whatever you put into it lost and gone. Let us all know what happenes, and good luck to ya!

Kraw, look for return time for the crooks in the 6 month to 1 year range. They know you are hot right now. They came back in 7 months here. Second time, got em on video!!.
P.S. you should really be all over who had the quad when NOPD recovered it. They will probably lead to the thieves. The only sure way to make sure they dont come back is if they are busted. Period.

We should close on the house this week, as soon as we do, there will be an alarm installed and new flood lights. I'm looking into some video cameras that are motion activated also.
Already have the plans for the storage building. We'll start building it in a few weeks, if not sooner. Not much else I can do

You could probably buy security systems just about anywhere. Northerntool.com carries a couple systems. I plan to setup a few cameras around the outside of my home. Then I won't have to get up each time the dogs bark. I'll just watch it on the monitor. It's a shame people even have to use such systems. It's a sign of the times. Few years back nobody ever locked their doors. Now if you're in the back yard you have someone sneaking in your front door.

no the probably wont do any time at all, unless they have priors. The catch is, if you follow through with prosecution, even for a first timer, the last thing their OWN attorney will tell them is "you got lucky this time, but you will go up the river if you get caught again".
My statement is that if they get busted for YOUR theft, they likely will remember the sting of having to go through the booking and prosecution process. Likelyhood is they will pick another victim if they decide to do it again.
Even a dog knows to **** in a different spot after you whip his a$$ for peeing on your rug.

No report filed? That sounds like some of that typical Orleans Parish corruption. The D. A. is probably riding that thing around as exhibit A. These new developements would land my attourney on top of all the cops that handled? my case. Have your attourney friend start building a case as he'll be taken more seriously than a regular citizen. I think this is gonna be a long drawn-out ordeal. Hope not, but that's the way things are handled around here. That part about you being a city employee shouldn't be a factor. I'll bet the impound yard is a private entity other than the city. Maybe not but they should be, have to be, insured. "Cut me a check!" is all that I can think of. Keep us posted and find out who that is they want you to testify against. Good luck.

The yard is the Almonaster yard, and it's owned by the city.
To make things worse, on my State registration, they TYPOED MY VIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This explains why I wasn't contacted in the first place. Well, that and the fact that Kenner didn't EVEN ENTER MY VIN IN THE NCIC!!!! So, now I have TWO agencies that have dropped the ball. Simply amazing!
I'm going to contact NOPD again tomorrow and try to at least get my report/item number so I can go from there. I was TOLD by NOPD that they are responsible for my bike, but everyone keeps telling me even though they owe me, they'll never pay, then I'll have to sue to get my money PLUS attorney fees etc. NO is just sooooo messed up it's unreal. I work for the city but not IN the city (airport) so it may take awhile to trickle down to here if I did (or should I say WHEN) I get a lawyer on it
