Default honda 450 comes up short against yamma 450 (dirtwheels)

In the new issue of dirt wheels(march 2004) the new honda 450 came up short to the yamaha 450. A few of the facts

1. wet weight- yamaha 450 weighed 378 to the stripped down honda's 376
2. Power- the new 450 honda made 37 hp at 7300 rpm to the yamaha450's 39.3 at 8050 rpm With aftermarket exhaust the gap was even bigger with the power going to the yamaha.
3. The dirtwheels crew said the yamaha was compitition ready and called the Honda trx a trail and track quad.

As i have said in earlier post that honda dropped the ball on this new quad. Coulda, shoulda been better. The yamaha has better motor build up possibilites over the honda. The quads are basicly the same weight and that lack of HP will be impossible to make up. Honda has always been at the back of the pack when it comes to the motors anyway.

You know it had to pain the dirtwheels guys to say anything bad about honda from all the money honda spends with them. LOL

Round 1 goes to yamaha

Honda may have dropped the ball in those catagories, but I still want to see long term reliability out of both quads to see if one or the other dropped the ball.

That breaks my heart. I hate seeing Honda fall short again. LOL

But both bikes will be limited with how much power can be squeezed out. Sparks has a couple bore kits for the YFZ, you can phone them to hear about them, and their 470 kit gets between 55-60hp. So the old statement...there is no replacement for displacement strikes again. Looks like it's going to take a shot of NOS or something to get the YFZ up to speed with the big bore Raptor's and Banshee's of the world.

Of course we'll have to see what can be done with the Honda, but I'm sure it will be hard to squeeze lots of ponies out of it as well.

Sparks made the 400ex's scream, can't wait to see what he does with these Honda 450Rs.

And I'm not talking about racing stock vs. stock, or anything like that. I'm talking bored 300ft drag races. Call sparks, they have a 470kit for just over a $1000, and they are running about 55-60hp. Those numbers won't compete with the Bored Banshee's and Raptors running around in a drag race. Face it.

But I bleed blue. The YFZ is going to top the new R, and that pleases me.

BTW...Yamaha just beat Honda...it's time to celebrate. The arguement on the fastest Yamaha can be done later. It's time to party. Down with the R! Down with the R! Down with the R!

man dirtwheels is dirt literally. they own another brand of magazine that has and office thatworks out of the same floor right next to dirtwheels i found out on other forums and by linking adresses. anyways they say like opposite things sometimes. you know when they go ans testride the quads? well the guys from the other magt test them out on the same day and the same track and probally within the same hour! and there rresults seem to differ.

I think both are great bikes. But I like the honda better. I woudl take any of those bikes, but honda should have done better. I think they did great, but if everyone says they did not, then they sliped. But everyone has there opinion and I have mine, so we are even.

Some people say the TRX450R is better and some say the YFZ450 is better...its hopeless! (no one will ever decide)
