Pull start a kodiak..??

Yep you gotta pull it up a little like someone said. Once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. Check your battery connections before you take it to the stealership and get a new battery. I had the same prob w/ mine, but it was my battery connections.

Thanks all.
I will check the battery connections, and try again...and I will have to get out there and practice that "technique"....
we have 3-4 foot snow drifts now, so it isnt going anywhere for a day or 2....dang it...
thanks

Your battery is dead. I bought a new 220 bayou a few years ago. Had it a week and battery was like yours. Took it back to the dealer and they checked it out. It was a defective battery and gave me a new one. lol

Keep in mind that an atv does not have an alternator like a car, it re-charges the battery with a motor stator. That means if your 12 volt battery has discharged down to say 6 volts even after you recoil start it, it will only re-charge at 6 volts. Having said that, it is important to keep your battery charged. That means putting a 12 volt 2 amp charger on it every 3-6 weeks with none use of the atv to keep the battery charged at 13-12 volts. A battery may only turn over the starter down to approx. 10 volts, anything lower than that you get the perverbial buzzing underneath the seat saying "I'm out of juice, pull me!" The others are correct when using the recoil pull start do it when the piston is on its downstroke, not against cylinder compression. good luck! P.S. 12 volt motorcycle-atv battery charging guidelines
12 volts DC @ 1.2 amps 5-10 hours.

switch 626, I see that you ride a bruin also. I was wondering if you know what the top speed is on the bruins. I'm a old fart and probably will never drive mine wide open long enough to find out. Just curious what top end is in case somebody ask. So far I am satisfied with mine, getting close to the 20 hour check up. I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I do.
