Pull start a kodiak..??
#1
Ok I posted here a day or so ago about the NEW kodiak not starting...
I thought maybe,,,just maybe it was a fluke...
Today, I tried to start it,,,, nothing but a loud buzz.......UGH....
so i tried to pull start it...... grunt.... no way.... my god,I am not a weakling..... but holy cow...
so I got a man..lol he couldnt pull start it either....
will they pullstart if the battery is dead..??
how hard do they pull..??
gesh I sure would hate to be out by myself and have to pull it...I would have had better luck tying the rope to a tree and pushing it off a cliff......
called the dealer, he said that you have to pull out the rope untill you hear it de-compress, then pull it..??
is this true of is he feeding me BS....??

#1-Your battery is dead, that is why you are getting the buzzing noise from under the seat.
#2- Yes, if you catch the piston on the compression stroke, you'll rip your arm off. Put your foot on the floorboard, and pull slowly until you feel it release, then give the rope slack, and let it recoil, then give it a steady, full pull. The quad is actually very easily started with the recoil starter, once you get the method down.

Well,
There you have it... so I was just "doing" it wrong......(I will keep it PG rated)

ugh....so now I have to go out and "practice"....just to get the @#^$ thing started..
so the buzz is just the dead battery, I wonder why a NEW quad would do this, maybe old battery,? how can I tell if it is charging correctly or not..??
Thanks all,
Deb

Yes we are in MI, it is cold, but it is inside in the garage... everyone elses quads started fine...
I called the dealer he will replace the battery...I hope it is just an "old" battery and not a problem with the charging system...
Thanks.

If you just got the wheeler I would return it to the dealer and make him put a new battery in it!

When you're at the dealer having the battery replaced...ask them to show you their method for pull starting, maybe they have some pointers. Its not that unusual for a new quad to get a bum battery.

Most, if not all dealers get their batteries shipped without the acid installed. Most dealers just add the acid, install the battery in the quad, and put the quad on the showroom floor. The quad is then sold to the buyer, and the buyer hopefully enjoys his quad. In most cases, this will drastically reduce the life of the battery. From what I have been told, to maximize the life of the battery, put the acid in, let it sit for a couple of hours, then put the battery on a very low trickle charge. When the battery has reached full charge, let it sit for a couple more hours, install it in the quad, and you are good to go.
