I've been calling around to the local Yamaha dealers. The magazines list the MSRP on the Raptor from $6299-$6499. All the dealers around here are asking $6999-$7499. Most of the places are averaging 4 bikes on the first shipment, with a minimum of 15 guys on the waiting list. They have no idea what colors they're getting, nor do they care. One place didn't know how much they are asking for them, the salesguy said, "we'll have to see how they sell." I asked, don't you have a waiting list? He said yes. And I said, they seem to be selling well. I'd hate to buy one now, only to see the price drop $600-$800 next year.

They don't know what colors they're getting?

My dealer said he is getting 4, two blue and two white/black models. Could he be mistaken or just lucky enough to know the right person who could tell him what colors he's getting?

Hey Quadfather, head southeast to Charleston, WV to some shops down here...$6599 down here, better hurry...about half of the first allotment (6 until Dec) at each dealer have deposits ($100) on them.

Some magazines were estimating $6200 before the official release. $6499 is the official MSRP on the Raptor and that is what I paid for mine. The dealers that are marking them up are doing so because of high demand and limited supply. Check with some of the less popular dealers where they specialize in something other than ATVs. Those guys may not realize the high demand for the Raptor and sell you one at or below MSRP.

All i have to say is, I went through the same thing when considering a DS, they were going for over msrp+SH+setup and I just decided I would not be screwed over so I did not buy one. But when I went to reserve my Raptor I told a different dealer that I would NOT pay more than Retail, but they still charged me S&H and setup of $150. So hopefully Yamaha will lower their announced MSRP from 6499 to 6199. Either way I will be happy to Pay MSRP but not more. So my cost is just going to be 6649 or 6349, still very fair pricing. I would just tell dealers wanting over MSRP to keep it. Thats Not good business and I would not reccomend paying that much since just buying it and taking it off the lot you'll lose value and the amount you lose is from the MSRP not what you actually paid for it. So if you plan on ever trading within a year or 2 dont pay over MSRP but if you must have it and will keep it til the end of its usable life then go ahead and pay Way too much for it. Actually i would consider this as a type of price gouging and there may actually be some way to punish dealers who practice this. I sure dont like this type of Dealer and I will hold it against them, by not reccomending them to others. You guys should do the same.
