To think people complain about the trx450r only having a kickstart...go figure.
What if the rappy had one. Just think, no more one wayy bearing problems on the raptor...it might be awfully hard to kick though.
Ever tried to kick over an XR650r? Exact same problem. I weigh 155lbs, and that thing laughed at me everytime I got stuck on the compression stroke, lol. My 200lbs father inlaw even had difficulty starting it. I can imagine the raptor would be a similair issue.

When it comes time to bore the TRX cylinder, might as well throw it away, cause boring it will take it past the 450cc limit for ama racing
I don't think thats concern. I'm not sure, but I think the cylinders on both the YFZ and the TRX are plated and have to either be re-plated or bored and a sleeve installed. I don't know if they will boost it up to 450, but if they don't I don't think that will be the reason.

The reason they made it 439cc was because that was the limit when they designed it
ummm thats not true....it was under 440 because the pro mx class has a max of 440, not sure which class but i know thats why its 439

i only read the first few post im a lazy a$$ wut can i say

R U GUYS KIDDING THEY ONLY DID 440 casue of the limit. B/c of honda they will bump it to 450 and yamaha wil want to bump theirs up to compete better. ALSO, it would be cheaper for yamaha they can use the same clinder/piston from their dirtbikes

they are made in different factories and the engines have different pistons, and cranks as well so it would be much harder than simply "boosting" it up=more $$$=no good for yammy=we can still bore it out if we want

I hate to throw yet ANOTHER personal opinion into such an unimportant matter....but it sounds like that NOT MANY OF YOU have read the Kory Ellis review of the YFZ450 (which has actually been referred to by one of you in this thread. Anyway, Kory makes it sound almost UNquestionable that yamaha has already got the bump-up to 450 in the works for '05.

As a matter of fact, I've actually heard probably 3 - or maybe 4 - sources say that same thing. All of these sources are people who either race for yamaha and get some pretty accurate info or are magazine editors who have enough clout to find-out the skinny on something of as much interest to the reader-world as this.

Anyway, i'd put $100 (just because I'm cheap on a bet that Yama bumps for '05. It's almost for sure from what I've heard and read everywhere. Nevertheless, it's pretty funny that we're even discussing this at this point because ANYONE who is thinking about getting a YFZ RIGHT NOW had BETTER NOT WAIT UNTIL THIS FALL!!! I just got mine last week and spent a week in mesquite, NV ripping the desert apart. My Hell - if this isn't the best fourwheeler screamer ever built, it's AT LEAST one you should have in your reportoire.

Cheers.
