That would REALLY be stretching things since this thing will probably be just as slow as the Warrior compared to the modern YFZ.

My feeling is that Yamaha is just trying to take advantage of the uninformed consumer and is trying to push a dog in a race horse's clothing to them. I owned a warrior for about 6 months and would not consider it in the same class with any sport quad made after 2000.

I also agree with maddog56. I think Yamaha could have put a wee bit more effort into this one. I still have the Warrior (wife's quad) and think it is a nice, reliable all around quad. But when I get on it after being on the "real Raptor" I can hardly stand it; it just isn't the same. Why couldn't they have tweaked the plastics in another direction and called it something original?

I dunno if it's as bad as a dog in race horse clothing, but it definitely uninspired. The Warrior was, and continues to be and excellent quad, but no, it just doesn't compare with newer machines such as the Z, KFX, DVX (aka Kawasukicat) or even very closely with the 400EX. The only comparsion with the Warrior and EX is a proximity in top speed, and that's only a proximity. But now that I've mentioned it .. the kawasukicat is not exactly inspired either is it? Pretty well the exact same quad from three different manufacturers!!! At least they all got different names

For me, the dog/horse comparison is there when you put the warrior next to the YFZ.

I think it's a good move. Some people like the looks and performance of the Raptor but don't need that much power or want to pay the higher price. Maybe it's just a cosmetic change this year and engine up-grade next year. Of course after they up-grade the engine, it's going to cost more than the Raptor anyway.

But why would you pay $5k for a 15 year old mechanical design when you could get a current design (Z400) for the same amount? Just because of the look?
