For now, we dont quite know. Ive heard from a 450R owner ( KGB ) That the YFZ's are faster stock. And his posts are the most unbiased on this forum. So you can go with his info.

I've seen my first 450r's this past weekend at Dumont. Nice looking machines. I didn't see any stock ones race. I did race against two modded ones. I lost to both. One by a quad or so and the other by 3-4 quads. I'm 260lbs, one of the 450r's rider was at least 200lbs. That's the one I lost by a quad or two to. In the same race as the one I was spanked by 4 quads a YFZ was in the race and it lost by a quad or so to the 450R also. They were buddies and were racing each other and I jumped in to see what was up. They take off like rockets just like the YFZ's. I'd say mod for mod they will be fairly close to the YFZ. IMO. The only draw back for me (not others, but me) is the kick start only option. I might seriously consider it over the YFZ as it is less expensive. All in all they look to be a keeper to me.

I didn't ask, but one had a full pipe, not the end cap mod. I'm guessing the rest of the HRC kit as well. The few stock ones that were around I didn't see run the hill. My brother said he saw one of the 450r's with a pipe getting beat pretty badly by a stock YFZ with a younger girl riding the YFZ. She might have weighed all of 80lbs. I raced her and beat her by 4 quads. I like the CRF's as I did the YFZ's when they come out. I need a 3rd quad and soon. My choices are expanding to say the least. PS. Stock and piped YFZ's are no problem for my fat azz and my black/white Raptor. The cam modded/piped/jetted/lid removed ones are more of a test. Equal weight riders i'll hang with or beat. The lighter riders usualy beat me.

That's why I was guessing the CRF had the HRC kits installed.

"Does the 450R compare to the YFZ450?"

I don't know exactly what your asking here...of course it compares...hell it compares against a blaster.

if you want to know "how" it compares...read Dirtwheels or ATVSport. Both have done a shootout and Both have awarded the YFZ winner. I have the opportunity to ride both quads and can tell you they are very different. many have suggested basing your choice of purchase on where you ride. IMO i would make my choice on how you ride.

if your the individual who bought a sports quad because you like riding hard "*** off the seat" type riding. you like whipping the quad around like a blaster or a 250r. i say YFZ.

if you ride up and down and your *** is on the seat more than 30%. you like speed but want it to come on controlled, smooth. you like loafting the front over obstacles on demand. i say TRX

it's strange how the YFZ actually feels more like the 250R than the Honda does. but it's true. the YFZ feels, and the power comes on, like a 2 stroke....and you might not like this. the TRX feels more like what you are expecting a 4 stroke to feel like..with the low end tourque and all. i think this tourqe also adds in the ease of lifting the front end.

The Honda seemed more forgiving in steering than the YFZ..the yfz goes where you aim it. and without a dampner it can become twitchy at high speed...especially if your fatiqued. but that is exactly the response you crave when your in tight stuff.

it seems that Honda Built a kick *** 400ex or Z400. made it competition ready with a huge set of B@!!s. yet it still feels familiar.

Yamaha seems like they built a machine for the people craving a replacement for the 250r. it feels lighter than the TRX because it's balanced better. when your weight is right above the pegs on the YFZ it just dances around you. the rougher the terrain the more it eats it up...all around you. and when you grab the throttle it just ripps and roosts like a 2 stroke.

sigh...im done.

Its so close man, I would not worry about which is faster. Buy the one you like the styling, the company, the start mode, or whatever. I never rode mine stock, espicially against anybody. I do know that withthe mods I have, HRC cam, HRC end cap, no air box, K&N, I have not lost to any YFZ450's. And I weigh 225#. I ride in the dunes, and any races were up a very long and steep hill.
If you like Yamaha, buy a YFZ, if you like Honda buy the 450R. Its that easy.
