Default CB Radio on quads?

Anyone ever hookup a cb radio on their quad? My dad wants to put one on his 88 Honda Fourtrax and another in his F150. Will it drain the battery much?

I have seen a few small Radio Shack CB's mounted on quads before and those guys seem to have no problems with theres. I wouldn't think it would be any different with people high powered lights on there quads.

You would probably be better off with a handheld CB if you want one, that way you don't have to find a place to mount an antenna and the radio

Thats what I told him but he says they run out of battery pretty fast, he used to be a truck driver and now he has a truck dealer so I figure he knows what hes talking about. We have like 3-4 cb's around so it would be pretty easy and cheap for all of the fam to have one, I guess thats another reason he wants to use those. I think the handhelds dont have as good reception as the regular ones?

Most antennas need a good ground,

On a car or truck, the CB antenna will either be clamped on some metallic object or
held on by a magnet again on a metallic surface.

I think this would be the big problem on a quad.

Aside from that, as far as transmit power goes, I think a mobile is better than a portable.

And as for power consumption, well, it will suck on your battery, but think of it this way, you ain't gonna chat for hours, most likely, it's going to be small conversasions. Nobody in their right mind would drive 40-50 miles into the woods, then try to raise all their friends on CB, and if someone want to try just that, well, bring an extra car battery in the trunk...

And be sure to stick with your resistor type sparkplugs to eliminate interferance.

Nearly everyone in these parts uses CBs on their ATVs. The guys that I know that have them run the power directly from the quad's battery.

Motocomm has headsets for helmets if you want hands free operation. We use them with talkabouts.
