This is probably a dumb question, but I need to firm up the ride some on my wife's 99 Big Bear. I read the owners manual and it said to turn the adjuster thing, but I can't get it to move. Do I have to take the shock-coil combo off to firm up the ride, or can I do it while it is still attached? Will this cause it to sit higher in the back? Thanks, Chris

The suspension your talking about is more than likely preload so just get a big pair of pliers and turn it.

The longer the shock = softer ride
The shorter the shock = harder ride.

There should be two bolts, one on the bottom to lock the top nut that holds up the shock and moves it. First loosen that bottom nut and then turn the nut counterclockwise to firm up the ride. Keep turning it until you think youre adjusted right. if you want it softer just turn it the other way. Then when youre done just tighten the bottom nut up to the top one again to lock it. That should work if your shock is set up like my blaster's.

I just take a pair of slip joint pliers and turn on the shock just below the spring on my wolverine, should be the same setup on the big bear.

For the Warrior front and rears, along with Banshee front and rears, and Blaster fronts, you can buy this little half-hook type tool that fits the grooves. Stop by your local Yammy dealer and buy one, or order it out of Dennis Kirk. Will run you about $7.00. Peace

kmoney,
If you'r talking about pre-load adjustment an ordinary pair of 12" channel locks will do it just fine, and you can use them for many other jobs as well. If you're referring to rebound adj. an ordinary slotted screwdriver will be necessary to adjust the clicks on the rear shock only. The fronts have no rebound or compression adjustment.
