Default Gearing is a god send!

I was riding all this last weekend at South Jetty and finally got a chance to change my gearing to what I had wanted for a while. I was running 13/42 which was a tad bit high because my 2nd gear starts barly bogged and when I hit 3rd while climbing it just didn't quite get to the "sweet spot" in the rpm range. So I bumped the rear up to 44 teeth and OMG what a difference in power! I totally climbed the hill's wayy faster after gettin in that 3rd gear cause it was geared now just low enough to get that power to the ground. It seemed like I unlocked a hidden bundle of horse power! It's amazing how much these little things that people look over make such a difference...it could be the deciding factor in a race.

Anyways...just thought I'd share my success with gearing! The coast was awesome this weekend too...very fun weekend of riding I must say!

I also saw my first 450R this weekend...man those things are small!! They look wayy smaller than the YFZ! The people I saw riding them looks sooo uncomfortable...especially when their knees are hitting the handlebars! Just what I observed.

I just dropped to a 12 tooth front when I stock, it really woke the bike up and only lost a few mph on top.

Ok what is more effective going down one in the front or going up in the back? or is it basically the same thing?

going down one on the countershaft (front) is equivelient to going up four in the rear.

Now that I think of it I might have a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket...stock gearing is 13/42 I believe and I'm pretty sure I was alot higher than stock gearing.

Bigger in back is better IMO.

13/40 is stock. And 1 up front is= to 3 in back.

Ya, I do have a 14 on the countershaft....so my gearing is 14/44. The only problem I noticed is that with the bigger gear in the back the chain gets clogged with sand easier and slips, it's not bad enough to change it though.

Also if you run a skid plate on the rear, anything over 41 has a hard time fitting.
