Default How does the kodiak measuew up?

I was reading the tests done by atvtv & see that they put the 450 in the 500 class. Is it really that strong or should they have put it in the 400 class?

The kodiak is a strong Quad and i only have to 400 version with the hi and low (2000) not like the new 400 and I put a few mods on it and i can beat if not all most of the 500s. I rode the 450 and even though its only has an extra 21cc or so it does make a difference and can run with the best. i aslo found that the kodiaks take well to mods like mine so you can do almost everything with the kodiak. I wish i had the 4 wheel lock though but i have to much $$$ in mine to upgrade.

Thanks for the replies. I had made up my mind on 450 a couple weeks ago, but I was getting nervous at the last minute. The vinson was starting to look real good. This will be a big purchase, and I plan on keeping it a long time. I don't plan on mud bogging or anything hard on the machine like that, just plowing snow, ice fishing & racing around.

Well here's just a quick comparison for you. I have an 04 Kodiak 450 and my friend has a 97 Sportsman 500. When we race it's almost dead even until we hit about 35-40 then he starts to pull away. Not by much but it is faster. I was a little disappointed. So what kind of mods have you guys done and how much of a difference did it actually make?

there is a guy on e-bay that sells a billet end cap, get it, you will love it. looks nice and sounds great, don't know if it will meet the 96 dec for trails, has anyone had one checked? took out 2 500's with my 450 the other day on the lake, felt good!!!

ps add a good air filter with good filter oil, [not motor oil like the book says] and the kodiak rips!!!

I would like to see the mods you did to the kodiak you own. I have asked this question for awhile now and you may be able to answer it for me. Can you get a K&N Air Filter for the kodiak 450?

I have a K&N air filter but it for the kodiak 400 and not the 450 but i would think that it would be the same thing.
