Default Rider dies in Salem NH

I just saw on the news that a ATV rider riding a Yamaha banshee was killed on a pond in Salem NH. From what they said the water levels have droped and some rocks were expsosed causing him to fly off the banshee. They said he was not wearing a helmet.

Its unfortuate that things like this have to happen but even worse when someone is not wearing a helmet.

My thoughts go out to the riders family

My condolences to the family but w/ no helmet, what do you expect? My helmet has saved my life a couple of times that I can think of. It's so simple. I am however sorry to hear about any death of a fellow rider.

It's sad that something so simple like a helmet could have saved his life. Still might not have saved his life but would have been worth the 3 seconds to put on the helmet for the extra chance to walk away from the accident

Yeah it's too bad he didn't have a helmet... he probably would've escaped with scrapes and bruises... possibly a concussion if he had only worn a helmet!

This is NH People. "Live free or Die". No Taxes and No helmet laws. Your Choice. I don't feel bad for Randy Kolias...he had the option and he died doing something he Liked or loved (I should be so lucky). I do feel for his family however.

the helmet issue is a debate i'm torn on. In NH, they are very Patriotic and hold onto their rights with one hand. the other hand is on their gun. Sporto's (teens on sport bikes) tear down the routes with no shirt or helmet...just a pair of Oakleys. and i think "idiot"

Then i see Grizzly Adams with the ZZtop beard Blowing in the wind...cruising through the White Mountains on his Hog...and I think "Freedom". ....Strange...but that how i feel.

after many debates and fights with friends over this. i've come to accept peoples decision/choice/right to ride without a helmet. i just think there should be a law to wear a helmet until you've become an adult. then you can make your choice.

some of you may understand this...some will not. we all reside in diffrent states in this great country. and we all have our opinions. I understand why people want everyone to wear a helmet and i respect peoples right to make that decision.

"Live Free or Die" Sometimes means "Live Free and Die"...it's a shame.

It is sad to hear someone died, but we live and die by our choices. I can't feel bad for someone who makes a decision and then pays the price for it. I do feel bad for his family and friends he left behind.
For those of you (including myself) who don't wear a helmet ALL the time, It could be one of us next.

one of my buddies hardly ever wears one... and the rest of us always give him crap... he has crashed a few times and a helmet would have saved him alot of pain... and he is a very crazy rider too... one of these days things arent gonna go his way.... (wait... then maybe i can get his 450r... j/k)

well...fish and game showed up on my pond this weekend trying to inforce some 20 mph limit. of course he picks me out because im on a sport quad. as we are having this discussion 8 or ten sleds go shooting by doing 70-80 mph.

he starts with the...don't shoot the messenger blah blah. and then a F'n Ice sled blows by doing 40-50mph. a sled with a sail. powered by the f'n wind!!!

he was completely embarrased...and actually apologized for how ridiculous this all appeared. and asked for my understanding regarding the circumstances on Arlington pond. i wanted to explode on the guy...instead my neighbors came over and gave me support. i'm still in shock.

don't know where i'm going with this...just wanted to give a little follow up on how these types of things can effect all.
