Default GYT-R exhaust problems...

Just got back from Glamis and for the second time in less than 2 months, the spark arrestor in my gyt-r silencer has blown off. The only remaining piece is the ring that holds it in place. I'm not sure what's causing it to be blown off. All I have is your basic mods, slip-on, k&n, running with the lid on minus snorkel. And I'm not sure but I think I'm jetted at 150,155, stock needles, and I can't remember what my pilots are set to, but its whatever comes with the gyt-r jet kit.

Anyway, if anyone has a guess or an idea of what's causing this, I'd really appreciate the input. Thanks.

I'm not sure what is causing it but have seen a couple Raptors and now a YZF 450 do it often. I started buying the Pro Circuit T4 spark arrestors and grinding the ring down to fit. They are allot cheaper and seem to last longer. I did epoxy one of the GYT-Rs screen to the ring right when I bought it and that seems to hold up better. Its just another Yamaha flaw I guess. Worst part is I put a T4 on a raptor about 2 years ago and he has had no problems. I think the perforated tube must be rattling around in there and chafing the screen

I have seen a post on another site about the same problem. I've had mine out on one long weekend so far and some smaller rides with no problems. I'll be duning 4 days next weekend so we'll see if it lasts. Others have had theirs for months with no problems so might just be bad luck...

I've went thru 2 of them with my YFZ. I've yet to figure out a way to make them last over 10 hours. I 'also tried applying J&B weld to one that was starting to seperate from the ring and that helped for a while. Wondering if the spark arrestor requires a spacer between it and the internal exhaust tube to prenet any rubbing/wear???

MNRAP...what did you do to replace them? Did you buy them from Yamaha or make your own?

Well, at least I'm not alone in this. But for 30 bucks a pop, it's definitely not worth it. I only had about 3 hours of riding time with the new Spark Arrestor before the darn thing blew off. Maybe it's time I change to a new system. Maybe Yosh or Sparks....
