Most shops require 2 setups too bore 2mm. THat doubles the boring charge. If a shop wants too do a bore job for you and does not ask for the piston, go elsewhere.

1) Does anyone know anyone around the Houston area (machine shop) that is capable of performing this operation (besides the Yamaha dealership)?

2) I would like to actually talk to someone (or knows someone) who has the 100mm, S2, 11:1 setup and see how they like it. Regardless, if it is only an extra $40-60 for the machining, then might as well do it.

3) I'm going to hold off on the port and polish currently due to $$, but will I be happy with the 686, S2, 11:1 without it?

I couldn't agree more.....I will start my 3rd build within the next couple of months......granted the rod or piston don't give b4 then......

Well, I called the Yamaha dealership and they quoted me a price of $58 to bore the cylinder...not bad. With that, it looks as though I'm going to go with the Stage 2, 102mm, 11:1. Should be a good combo I hope. Head porting and polishing will have to wait for a while unless someone here can explain how I could do it fairly easily.

appraptor
Be prepared to run a minimum of Super 94 octane with that 11:1 piston.
You may need to drop to a colder plug as well to help disipate the extra heat generated by the higher compresion. I have an 11:1 in my warrior and actuall need to mix 50/50 super with VP 103 so that it does not ping.

Bob, I have read that the 10.75/1 JE is actually around 12/1 if one does not have the Trinity head work since they supposedly developed the 10.75/1 piston. So you feel the 12/1 JE piston actually provides less compression than the 10.75/1 (without the trinity head work)?
