once you pop those bolts on top of the engine expect reduced reliability and no more adding fuel from a local gas station when your riding..
for the average guy bolting on a pipe, filter and jetting to both the Raptor and YFZ.. you'll then find that the Raptor wont' even be in the same league.

Rappys had there time in history.. until the summer of the 2003 when the YFZ was introduced.. and I am sure in a few years the YFZ will have have its legacy come to an end also.

I'll call you on the "raptor not in the same league as yfz". Stock yfz has about 5-6 hp more than a yfz. Add 14hp for a rap pipe, and 10 for a yfz. (These are max claimed peak hp gain by pipe companies). Now you have 50-75lbs less weight and still a few hp advantage on the yfz, so it will be faster. However, it won't be out of the league. It still be only a few lengths in a drag, and just as close as anything else is when similarly modded.

So are you saying that the Raptor won't be able to touch the performance of the same modded 450? or Vice Versa?
Chris
Chris
The reason I mentioned this is that those are the bolt on mods that the average rider will make on their quad.

A piped and filtered raptor will beat a stock yfz w/ similar riders. (typically,...que yfz owners who have killed everyone they have ever raced.)

So will those mods on a Raptor beat a stock 450?
Chris
Chris
I found that when my YFZ was completely stock, that a raptor with those mods would beat the YFZ on top end (and only on top end,, wasn't as quick off the line).. after nicking the shifter into 5th gear, the Raptor would start to pull away ..
NOW when comparing mine with identical mods to the Raptor on top end,, I can let the raptor get wound out on a dirt road and then just twist it to WOT and pull away very easily( 3 to 4 mph). This is with stock YFZ gearing and tires. The simple mods have more impact on the YFZ then the Raptor.

First things first, I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE WHINEY LITTLE KIDS COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW HARD THE SEAT IS!!! Don't buy the YFZ since the seat is so hard!!!! Second, YES, a YFZ is incredible on the trails!!! I'm not knocking on the Raptor by any means because its a Yamaha and look at what brand all 5 of my toys are, but come on now, your comparing a 660cc machine to a 450cc machine and the 450 beats it!!! That should say enough!!!
