686 porting/valve job recommendations?
I am getting a 686 built in the near future, but I am at a crossroads about th port, polish, and valve job options. One shop has quoted me $160 for a port and polish and an extra $200 for a valve job along with larger valves. Is the valve job necessary or is the port and polish work more important? I'm not a hard core racer and am leaning toward the "mild" 686 setup. What do you guys recommend with a stage 2 hotcam and a 11:1 piston? Should I go with the $200 valve job or just stick to the port and polish? What are the major benefits of both? What all is done on a valve job anyway?

A valve job is part of doing Port & Flow work. A good valve job is more important than the port work it's self. If your valves don't seal good your not going to make any power. Every Raptor/Grizzly I have ever seen with more than 10hr's on them needs new intake valves.
